What do I need to do to get in shape for this bike ride?
This is a fairly leisurely bike ride and there is no real “training” required. However, you should be able to ride 25-mile distances, nonstop, in order for you to enjoy this scenic tour of the Wenatchee Valley’s orchards and vineyards.
How far is the bike tour and how long will it take me?
The overall ride is approximately 50 miles. The first stop is 13 miles and there are several stops afterward that range from 3 to 10 miles. To ensure the safety of all riders, everyone will start at 8 am and the sag wagon will be on the road until 5 pm. The ride includes moderate terrain and has a total elevation gain of approx. 2000 ft.
What should I wear and take on the bike ride?
The average temperature in the Wenatchee Valley during September is 80 degrees. We recommend a short sleeve bike jersey, padded biking shorts, biking gloves, sunglasses, a hydration pack or 2 bottles of water, and a couple of energy bars. Helmets are required during the entire ride. There will be several stops and each stop will provide water, slices of fruit, and bagels.
How should my bike be set up?
As always, we suggest you have your bike fully tuned, including tires pumped up and ensure that all gears and brakes are in working order. Most of the bike ride will be on paved country backroads so your tires should be 700 × 23 c or wider. A road bike is suggested, but if you choose to ride a mountain bike, we suggest using 1.5" or narrower slick tires.
What if I need road-side assistance during the ride?
Please note that the bike route follows back roads that occasionally have goat heads (these are nasty little thorns that will flatten your tires). It is suggested you use armadillo tires or tire liners. Please bring materials to repair your own flats. We do offer a flat-repair service, but our en-route bike mechanics may take up to an hour to get to you.
